Toro Negro State Forest is located on the south-central part of Puerto Rico among the municipalities of Orocovis, Jayuya, Ponce, Juana Diaz and Ciales. To arrive at the forest you must drive through the road # 143 until finding its entrance. The forest is very similar to El Yunque but without the high number of visitors. It is recommended for taking a cool dip in one of its natural pools or to spend a day walking through its paths admiring the beauty of the nature and its spectacular view towards the mountains. Also it is the home of the highest mountain of Puerto Rico, Cerro Punta, with a height of 1340 meters. It has a camping area with gazebos, BBQ's and restrooms. In order to use these facilities you must make a reservation with the Department of Natural Resources at 787-724-3724. It has a cost of $4 for adult per night and $2 for children younger than 12 years.
